Are you looking for how to turn back to the previous Spotify 0.9.7 gray design?
A few days ago Spotify released the 0.9.8.296 version for the streaming music service with a new dark design. Unfortunately the update is gradually coming to small groups of people. After a brief private conversation on Twitter with Matt (one of the collaborators on Spotify), he tells me that the update officially arrive “sometime earlier this year.” Currently, there is an official installer, but Spotify is trying to block the installation updating it to an old version.
So I have developed a simple application that works as one click Spotify 0.9.8.296 installer (note, not official). Of course also you can manually install it for Windows and OS X following a few steps.
NEW: Spotify 0.9.8.270 for Windows (automatic, with Unofficial Spotify Installer 0.9.8)
Spotify Installer is a simple application, unofficial, developed by me that works as an installer for the new version. Just click the app button and you will have the 0.9.8.270 update for Spotify in seconds. Thanks to Rollo_ & Matthias for the updates.
Because Spotify is trying to block the installation of this new design by installing the previous version automatically, I have made a simple script to avoid updates (just click the tick to the right of the buttom). Have fun!

If you want to install the new version, you just have to download the update from here. To install you just have to unzip the file and copy all the content of the folder in the installation path of Spotify (end before all system processes related to Spotify). You can go directly with Windows key + R and typing “%Appdata%Spotify” (without the quotes). Also, to avoid some warning with the permissions of Windows, you can right-click on spotify.exe, SpotifyLauncher.exe, SpotifyHelper.exe (Data folder) and SpotifyWebHelper.exe (Data folder) files and click Properties, click on Unlock and Windows never warns you again.
Remember to close all running processes relative to Spotify, in most cases the SpotifyHelper.exe process will be running. Remember to use Unofficial Spotify Installer for avoid the autodowngrade to an old version. Once copied all files, we can open Spotify and voila, new design ;) Cannot find alexa in my spotify app.

Spotify 0.9.8.296 for OS X
For OS X, to install 0.9.8 update of Spotify is very similar. You have to copy all the files from the update to the installation path of Spotify in OS X. Download Spotify 0.9.8.296 for Mac (do not use Safari to download!).
To avoid problems, I recommend ends all processes related to Spotify (writing killAll Spotify on terminal), delete the previous version, empty the trash, then copy the files from the new Spotify update. Thanks to micrian, Szergely, Miquel Àngel, Kristian Chlebus, David Román and sandi.

Tip OS X: How to avoid an autodowngrade to the old design
Does parrot zik require spotify download. Spotify is trying to block the installation of this new design by installing the previous version automatically. In Windows it is as easy as using Unofficial Spotify Installer (at the top of this post). On Mac, to avoid this update you have to follow these simple step:
- Go to your ~/Library folder - you can do this in Finder by doing shift+cmd+g and typing “~/Library” without the quotes and hitting enter.
- Go to Application Support/Spotify.
- Delete Spotify_new.archive and Spotify_new.archive.sig (if they are there).
- Now open your favorite text editor, I used TextWrangler
- Make two blank documents and save them as “Spotify_new.archive” and “Spotify_new.archive.sig” - without the quotes, the same file names as the ones you deleted.
- Right click each file and go to “Get Info”.
- Check the “Locked” button on each and close the info window.
- You should now see a small lock icon on each file.
- Restart Spotify and enjoy Spotify with the new design and no auto updates!

Although I love and adore music, I tend to get distracted when one of my favorite music streaming apps Spotify automatically opens up on startup in Mac. Here, selecting the right playlist becomes more important than my office tasks. Does that happen to you as well? Then you need to stop Spotify from opening on Mac startup.
How to Stop Spotify From Opening Automatically on Mac Startup
Quite like the feature of upgrading to Spotify premium, the app does not keep the said setting handy. It was after some poking around that I found the setting. In doing so, I found a setting perfectly suited to my case.
As I mentioned, I love music and tend to get distracted when Spotify pops up. So, instead of preventing Spotify from opening on startup, I can choose it to start and minimize on my Dock. This way, the app remains always approachable, without distracting.
Step #1. Open the Spotify app on your Mac.
Step #2.Log in to the app (skip the step if already logged in).

In the world of music streaming, Spotify stands tall amongst its competitors. However, it is some small user-interface related issues that holds the app back. While no setting is difficult, finding and reaching that particular setting is a laborius process. For instance, you can only upgrade or delete your spotify account permanently via web.

While I wish Spotify takes heed of such issue and simplify these task.
